Joseph Osterbauer's Legal Journey

Joe Osterbauer was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended Benilde-St. Margaret’s High School, St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and received his law degree in 1990 from the William Mitchell College of Law. While going to law school, Mr. Osterbauer clerked at the Cody Law Firm in St. Paul. Upon graduation, Mr. Osterbauer worked with the Taylor Law Firm in Minneapolis for a year and a half.

He then founded the Osterbauer Law Firm in the summer of 1992. In 2025, he formed a partnership with long-time Osterbauer attorneys, Ben Harper and Amanda Furth. Mr. Osterbauer has been recognized as one of the top attorneys in the state of Minnesota and practices in the areas of workers’ compensation and personal injury.

Legal advocacy runs in Joe Osterbauer’s family. He has two sisters and a brother-in-law who are lawyers. Mr. Osterbauer is the proud father of four children — three of whom are currently in law school and have clerked at Osterbauer, Harper & Furth.

When he is not running the law firm or representing clients, Mr. Osterbauer spends his free time playing in poker tournaments, exploring new areas to go metal detecting and cheering on the Minnesota Vikings.
